Hossler and Duncan Racing Team

Alex Hossler and Chris Duncan
1970 1/2 Camaro Pro/Modified

1/8/2010 - Hossler and Duncan are now current Pro/Extreme Points leaders on two continents! --Alex Hossler made his long trip to Qatar pay off with the Pro Extreme win in Round 3 of the Arabian Drag Racing League’s 2009-10 season, posting a holeshot win over Tennessee’s Von Smith in the PX final round at the Qatar Race Club.
Hossler, the current American Drag Racing League Pro Extreme points leader, left with a .047 reaction time in his Chris Duncan-built ‘70 Camaro to Smith’s .068, allowing his 3.77-seconds pass at 202.52 mph to defeat the quicker and faster 3.76 at 206.01 put together by Smith in his Barwa-backed ‘68 Camaro.

“Honestly, I don’t think we could have asked for anything better than this,” Hossler said. “We’ve really had our work cut out for us over here, trying to get our tune-up happy in these incredible conditions, but we were able to put it together when we needed to, and do exactly what we came here to do. “This whole experience has been incredible and I can’t say enough about Sheikh Khalid and the hospitality he has displayed the entire time we’ve been here,” he continued. “The Qatar Race Club is easily one of the best tracks in the world, and we’re looking forward to the next two events with similar expectations. I have to say thanks to my crew chief and chassis builder, Chris Duncan, for calling the shots on this Art Hossler Auto Plaza hot rod and providing the platform for us to see success such as this.”

With crew chief and chassis builder Chris Duncan looking on, U.S.-based star Alex Hossler powered to the Pro Extreme win Jan. 8, in Round 3 of the Arabian Drag Racing League’s 2009-10 series at Qatar Race Club. After qualifying number one, Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani fell to Smith in the semi-finals. He will get his chance to reverse the decision next weekend, however, as Rounds 4 and 5 are coming up over the next two weeks.

12/28/2009 - Chris Duncan and Alex Hossler invited to compete at January Doha Qatar event - Chris Duncan and Alex Hossler invited to compete at January Doha Qatar event - With a special invitation from His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The CDRC team and their Pro/Modified Camaro are loading up on a Boeing 747 cargo plane and flying out to Doha Qatar in the Middle East as part of the Arabian Drag Racing League event the first 3 weeks of January. It's been and interesting challenge for the team. Chris Duncan commented, "We have a shipping container large enough for the Camaro, spare parts and tools. The Arabian Drag Racing League will supply a golf cart, a complete chassis and machine shop at the track for any extreme repairs or maintenance. We are being very careful not to forget anything, yet still have room in our shipping container."
The team will return in time for the CDRC display at the World Drag Expo... and probably with great stories to tell. Chris Duncan commented "Just coming off of our our big win in Texas, this is a great opportunity to show how our new CDRC Camaro can run consistently and make us a real factor on ADRL Pro/Extreme racing."

Also earning National Guard Minuteman trophies at the final event of the National Guard ADRL’s year, but the first points-paying opportunity of the 2010 season were new class champion Khalid Al-Balooshi in Pro Nitrous, Extreme 10.5 racer Chuck Ulsch, Scott Gray, who also won his first Pro Extreme Motorcycle championship earlier in the day, and Cary Goforth with his first official Extreme Pro Stock win.
Morgan Benfield of Virginia Beach, Virginia also won her first Junior Minuteman in the exhibition Pro Jr. Dragster class.
“How’s that for a spectacular finish?” Hossler asked upon climbing from his car after stopping on the track where safety crews sprayed the engine with a fire extinguisher. “It banged the blower right when we crossed the line, but it lasted just long enough to get the job done.”
Hossler and Stott left almost simultaneously, but when a 3.75 at 205.57-mph pass flashed across Stott’s scoreboard, it translated to a .021 margin of victory for Hossler.

Chris Duncan stated, "We qualified right off of the trailer number one with a 6.285 at 228 matching the

NMCA class record. We also set a new class record during second round of competition with a 6.26 at 228.61 mph. The bad news is that we hurt 2 pistons that record setting round and thrashed to make the semi finals. Uncoordinatedly, damage to a spark plug area on a cylinder head from the poison problems broke a spark resulting in a 7 cylinder 6.56 at 212 mph that was not good enough to get us to the finals."

A cong rats also goes out to Joe Buckaroo who also qualified his Nostalgia Pro/Street Mustang # 1 at Memphis and made it to the final round of the MNCA World Finals.

Team entered a marathon weekend, running the Street Machine Shootout at Ozark International Raceway followed by Black Sunday at Gateway.
- After their two previous outings the team was looking for a change in luck. In their two previous showings at the World Series of Drag racing and Ozark International Raceway, mechanical gremlins troubled the team. After making some changes in the engine the team felt confident they could find themselves back into the winners circle this weekend.

At the end of Friday night it looked like the team had the automatic ZO6 Corvette taken care of. The car was on a pass that would have been a personal best for the team. Suddenly the car spun the tires and in an excellent display Hossler pedaled the car, got it hooked back up and still went on to run a 4.20, good enough to grab the low qualifier position for Friday. “After looking at the data on the run the team was excited, we knew that with just a little more fine tuning and the car would be capable of its first 4.0,” said Chris Duncan, crew chief & car builder. The team knew with some of the top pro-modified teams at the Shootout they would have to step up if they wanted to hold onto the top qualifier position.

After a rain delay slowed the action on Saturday, the Hossler Duncan Racing team was excited for the chance to show that their car had more. In an amazing show the team stepped up and ran a 4.06 quick enough to take the top position by nearly a tenth of a second. In the fourth qualifying round the team knew they needed to step up one more time to hold onto the top qualifier. The ZO6 Corvette’s time of 4.06 held up for most of the final round of qualifying, until the pair before them, when Barklage Racing went 4.045. “It really took a little wind out of us when Cody went 4.04 but we were still confident with our set up,” said Duncan. With the pressure on, driver Alex Hossler stayed cool, hit his shifts, and ran a 4.040 to recapture the top qualifying spot. This pass was also the team personal best for this car.

“It’s really cool running this quick with a torque converter in a field where most cars run clutches,” said driver Alex Hossler.

The team paid for their efforts though damaging the engine slightly in their final qualifying effort. With some obvious smoke while staging the Corvette in the first round, driver Alex Hossler remained cool and went on to run a 4.24 in a winning effort. But relief for the win quickly turned to fear as just after the finish line the car encountered a spectacular flash fire. After finding the cause of the problem, a pushed head gasket that lead to oil under the hood, the team would not be able to stay in competition and would have to finish the weekend early. “Although we could not finish the weekend the way we planned, we showed a lot of promise and the ability to tune a car in the cooler than normal conditions,” said Hossler. The team still has high spirits over the potential they showed this weekend.
